If you'd like to keep Harry's fight against hunger going strong, consider volunteering for or donating to World Hunger Year's (WHY) annual Hungerthon radio event on New York's Infinity Broadcasting Corp. radio stations.. "Volunteers genuinely have fun and keep coming back year after year. I've watched people grow up over time, and some who came as kids now serve as supervisors," said Sue Leventhal, said Sue Leventhal, WHY's director of Hungerthon, Artists Against Hunger and Poverty, and Special Events.

Sue notes that there are volunteer opportunities at every Hungerthon event. Jobs include answering pledge phones, data entry, and auction and premium item fulfillment. Any special training needed will be given at the beginning of the volunteer's designated shift. For security reasons volunteers must sign up in advance at www.hungerthon.org or by calling Sue at 1-800-5-HUNGRY.

The first Hungerthon-related event will be the Trivia Night on October 17, 2003 in New York City at Sony Corporation from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Test your knowledge of every musical genre in an evening of fun while helping to fight hunger. It's $15 to play and open to the public, but you'll need to register online. Buy raffle tickets for great prizes like Mets and Yankees tickets, Sopranos packages, music catalogs, and books. See the Hungerthon site in September for more information.

Chapin music will highlight the Hungerthon Kickoff Party on October 30th. The evening begins with a buffet dinner at the home of Ann Ruckert. Performing at the concert will be Tom Chapin and his band, the Steve Chapin band, Jen Chapin and Stephan Crump, and special guest star Roseanne Cash. Pete Fornatale from WFUV 90.7 FM will serve as the host. The $100 ticket includes dinner and priority seating for the concert next door at the Church of Grace & St. Paul, 121 W. 71st St., in New York City. A ticket for the concert only is $50.

This year's radio auction items will include: a guitar signed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, a Gretch guitar signed by Ringo Starr, two Faith Hill and Tim McGraw guitars, a Johnny Cash guitar, an Eric Clapton model signed by him, a Brian Wilson guitar, a Don McLean guitar, and a NY Giants package that includes announcer's booth seats.

Hungerthon begins on November 22nd with Richard Neer's show on WFAN 66 AM from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Tenatively scheduled for the next evening, November 23rd, Joe D'Urso and Friends will perform at the Hard Rock Cafe at 221 West 57th Street in New York City.

On November 23rd Public Service Day will feature profiles of local groups fighting hunger in a broadcast from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Participating stations will be K-Rock (WXRK) 92.3 FM, BLINK (WNEW) 102.7 FM, and WFAN 660 AM in the New York City area. WHY's Reinvesting In America program staff will answer calls from those individuals needing help and those who want to provide help.

On November 25th legendary New York DJ Cousin Brucie holds forth on WCBS 101.1 FM from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. WHY's Executive Director Bill Ayres appears with Mike and The Mad Dog (Mike Francessa and Chris Russo) on WFAN from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

While baking those Thanksgiving pies on November 26th, you'll want to tune in to WINS 1010 AM and WCBS from 5:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
