Citizens and Letter Carriers Gear Up
for May 14th National Food Drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers will team up with America's Second Harvest food banks and the United Way on Saturday, May 14th — the second Saturday in May — in hopes of raising a record amount of non-perishable food items to help fight hunger in America.

It's easy to participate. On Saturday, May 14th, just gather a bag of nonperishable food items and either leave it by your mailbox or bring it to your local post office.

Last year, Letter Carriers from more than 1,400 postal branches across the country collected more than 70.9 million pounds of food and distributed it to food banks across the country. That total surpassed the previous year's total by more than 10 million pounds. Campbell Soup Company added to the total by donating an additional one million pounds of canned food.

The massive effort involved more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

Sponsors helping to underwrite costs associated with the event this year include the U.S. Postal Service, Campbell Soup Company and ValPak Direct Marketing Systems.
