Country Store Owner Celebrates
“Harry Chapin Weekend”

In her little, new “Snappies Country Store” in the rural town of Lassellsville, NY, Donna Christensen proclaimed the weekend of August 26th as “Harry Chapin Weekend.”

Christensen said she was playing every one of Harry's songs on the sound system in her store, sometimes plenty loudly, in honor of her sister Diane, who is a big fan of Harry’s music and was celebrating her 49th birthday. In an email to “Circle!,” Christensen also dedicated the event to “Lizzy's brother – say hi to Harry in heaven, I am playing all your discs, man.”

So how did the patrons respond? Christensen said the “whiter-haired” folks who came into the store remembered Harry well. A curious visitor asked her why she was hosting the event. “I replied – because I can,” she said. “People will leave my place today with a smile and a memory.”

Then Christensen smiled as well.

“It’s been grand for me, and I hope the light shines on and on and on,” she added. “We love you Harry – a bright good morning voice – where ever you may be.”
